LA's prolific electro punks The Mae Shi (the first seven tracks) face to face with newbie noise terrorists Rapider Than Horsepower from Indiana (the last 11), and the result is a constantly changing, challenging feast of a rock outing. Both outfits share a genuine love for throwing convention rather clumsily out the window, seeing its head happily cannon off the likes of The Blood Brothers, At The Drive-In, Captain Beefheart and Mr Bungle on the way down, and there isn't a duff track throughout the entire 18. Picks are Rapider's redneck slide attack for 'Testify' and the rocket-powered dEUS stomp of 'OOOOHHHHH', yet it's The Mae Shi's synth-shout insanity of 'Nickel Arcade' that crashes in from another world altogether. Oh, if only more music did.
